Crowley delivers amusement park to the Dominican Republic just in time for the holiday season

Monday, August 16th, 2010 | Permalink

The holidays will be a little brighter in the Dominican Republic this year thanks to Crowley as the city of Santo Domingo lights up with millions of neon lights and thousands of families gather to enjoy Iguana Park carnival festivities.

Crowley delivered an entire amusement park to Rio Haina, Dominican Republic for Amusements of America, the world’s largest traveling amusement company. All 56 pieces of amusement park rides and equipment were loaded onboard the Crowley Americas for the upcoming Iguana Park amusement park in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Iguana Park, which boasts 40 different rides and attractions, is the largest amusement park in the Caribbean. It opens on Thursday, Dec. 3.

This is the second year Crowley has handled the heavy and odd-sized cargo out of Port Everglades in Florida, which is reflective of the skill and professionalism of the company’s terminal and operations groups who handled the Roll On/Roll Off cargo with special care and attention.

The majority of the cargo was not enclosed in metal containers, but rather in mostly open flatbeds and open top trailers, which require the Ro/Ro vessel ramp angle to be correct at all times. Tides, ship trim and the ballast must be monitored constantly to avoid high centering of equipment. Special equipment and attachments must be used and sometimes designed to handle the unique needs of the cargo, explained Mike Hopkins, Crowley vice president of operations.

Marco Vivona of Amusements of America said Crowley was contracted because of the company’s service and delicate treatment of the cargo in 2008 and vessel schedule integrity.

For more information about Amusements of America or Iguana Park, visit www.amusementsofamerica.com or www.iguanapark.net, respectively.

Doha Summer Amusement Park promises fun, family entertainment during the summer months

Monday, August 16th, 2010 | Permalink

(QTA) announced at a press briefing today the details of Doha Summer Amusement Park which will be held at the Doha Exhibitions Center. The 8-week spectacle of activities opens on July 20 and runs through Ramadan, ending on September 14.

Speaking at the press briefing, Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority, acknowledged the recent criticism in the media about the delay in announcing the plans for the activities, but promised in return an extended summer of fun activities and entertainment. He said: “Qatar Tourism Authority is proud to organize such important domestic tourism event as Doha Summer Amusement Park. We are pleased to announce several changes that will take place this year, which will benefit everyone, making it a fun summer experience for families and especially children, from Qatar and around the region.” The changes in the program this year, from the timing of the event to the special surprises QTA has planned, are in response to visitors suggestions and complaints about prior years’ events.

The most popular change in this year’s festivities is sure to be the extended period, with the amusement park remaining open nearly 2 months through the Ramadan period and part of Eid Al Fitr. Special activities will be organized for Ramadan, to be announced closer to the dates. The other popular change to this year’s event is that entry is free for all. As part of a focused marketing campaign to the region, Qatar Tourism Authority has worked with many hotels around Doha to arrange special packages for visitors from neighboring countries.

Doha Summer Amusement Park features many more attractions and amusement rides featured for the first time in Qatar, with games and rides appropriate for a variety of age groups from adult and teens to school children and children under the age of 6.

Qatar Tourism Authority is organizing the summer festival in collaboration with SEQLIA Organizing & Building Exhibitions & Conferences Company. Mr. Lahdan Al Mohannadi, Head of Local Exhibitions at QTA and Mr. Mohd Ammar al Benni, Executive Manager of SEQLIA, were also present at the press briefing to answer questions about the event.

The entire event will occupy 12,500 square meters in the Doha Exhibitions Center, with 10,000 square meters of amusement rides and games. To make the event fun for all attending families, restaurants, cafes and shops will be set up in the Doha Exhibitions Center throughout the duration of festival.

The wide range of activities and events at Doha Summer Amusement Park will ensure there is something for everyone. Doha Summer Amusement Park will welcome fun-seekers from 3pm to midnight Saturday to Wednesday; and from 3pm to 1am on Thursdays and Fridays. Hours during Ramadan will be from 8pm to 2am and during Eid Al Fitr from noon to 1am. Entry is free for all. Game tickets start from QR5.

Holiday World Launches iPhone App

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 1 July, 2010
MEDIA CONTACT: Paula Werne, 812-937-5209; fun@holidayworld.com

‘HOLIDAY WORLD’& MORE!’ APP LAUNCHED
SANTA CLAUS, IND—–When Holiday World visitors are curious to learn the speed of a roller coaster or height of a water slide, where to find the nearest funnel cake or the closest location for free soft drinks, they will now be told “there’s an app for that.”

“We’re really excited to launch our own iPhone app,” says park general manager Matt Eckert. “I think the coolest part is the interactive map. It literally provides a ‘you are here’ perspective, along with the ability to find other members of your party who are also using the app.”

The app includes practical information such as parks rules and services, food menus and prices, plus current weather conditions. It also provides photos and details about each ride and water slide in Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, information about shows, and tips for planning a park visit. The app also utilizes social media, with access to the park’s YouTube videos and Twitter feed, plus a portal to the user’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“We developed this as a cooperative venture with the Spencer County Visitors Bureau,” says Eckert. “We’re hoping this will help Holiday World visitors learn about all the other fun things to do during their vacation here.” The two additional sections of the app detail lodging, attractions, restaurants and maps in “Santa Claus, Indiana: America’s Christmas Hometown” and “Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home.”

The app is also available as a mobile site for use on other smart-phones, using the address: http://m.holidayworld.com.

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari are now open daily, featuring the new Wildebeest, the world’s longest water coaster. On Sunday, July 4, the park will feature a fireworks display at 9:30 pm CDT. For more information, visit http://holidayworld.com or call 1-877-463-2645.
